Parent Tax and the Blueberry Whiskey Sour

A telltale sign that spring is in the air is when my daily cocktail switches from an old fashioned to a whiskey sour. Stouts and porters melt away as quickly as the snow with the onset of warm weather and domestic light/lite beers become the go-to when I’m feeling especially lazy. That’s thinking ahead, people. Let’s face it – this blog probably wouldn’t be as fun and fascinating as it is if rum wasn’t around....

How did the best rum punch north of the palm tree line end up at The Paddle Inn, a surf bar in Newburyport, Massachusetts? Well, that’s because Nolan Gawron, a writer and bartender I met on my Anguilla press trip (I always drop “Anguilla press trip” whenever I get the chance), did his research in Barbados. After all, if I’ve learned anything from writing this blog, the “research” is half the fun....
