As we were planning our trip to the US Virgin Islands, getting on a boat charter was at the of my to do list. Luckily, I had become friends with Pat from Seas the Day Charters and we were able to finalize an outing with them. If you’ve been searching for a company to book a day charter with in the US Virgin Islands, make sure they are on your short list. When I say short, I mean your top one or two. Our family was able to enjoy an afternoon charter with them and the experience was one we will treasure forever.
The captain for our “St. John Snorkel, Swim and Beach Experience” aboard the MV Aquarius was Captain Bryan. A Midwesterner with the hospitality the people of that region are known for, Captain Bryan couldn’t have been a more knowledgeable or pleasant host to spend an afternoon with. From local tidbits, history and lore (Kenny Chesney!) to the “school of fish” he educated my kids on to snorkeling with us and serving up rum punches, Bryan was someone who had found his calling. You couldn’t help but be enveloped by the joy he took in his job, making the afternoon with thim the perfect escape to the high seas.
The route we took explored the beaches on the north coast of St. John, a short ride from American Yacht Harbor in Red Hook. After asking us what we were interested in doing and letting us know what some of our options were, Captain Bryan was able to show us the popular and picturesque beaches on St. John’s north coast, along with relevant information on most of them. Some of the places of interest we were able to view included Kenny Chesney’s new home and the beach he married Rene Zellweger on, the still-in-limbo-from-the-hurricanes Caneel Bay Resort and Honeymoon Beach, home to one of the USVI’s newest and most popular beach bars.
The highlight of the trip for my family was swimming with the turtles and snorkeling among the fish. After guiding us to a spot where we could observe giant sea turtles swimming in the ocean and surfacing for air, it was time for a snorkeling adventure among schools of fish. Since our son was younger and didn’t want to snorkel, Captain Bryan gladly led the way for my wife and daughter, giving them the opportunity to swim among the fish while my son and I stayed back.
Our cruise back was a relaxing one as we motored past Lovango Cay and a few other minor cays along with Two Brothers. We arrived back at the dock content and happy, knowing that our family had just made another lifelong friend in the islands. When that happens, you know it’s been a memorable day and one that we will be keen on repeating in the near future.
The whole experience dealing with Seas the Day Charters was an easy one as Pat took care of all the behind-the-scenes stuff and even gave us a tour of his office at the harbor. The most difficult part of the day was our goodbye to Captain Bryan who has shown an innate ability to make every kind of guest welcome on his boat. We knew we would be back, though, and that made us excited, as it should you when you book a charter with Seas the Day.
If you have any apprehension about booking a charter with them, rest assured that Pat, Bryan and the other staff will make sure you have the best time of your life. That is always worth the price of admission.

Disclaimer
My family and I were provided this charter for free in exchange for my services and honest review. My opinion is an honest one and is no way influenced by all of the rum punches I enjoyed on the charter. I think I may have even had a beer at one point. Maybe.
