The governor of the state of Quintana Roo in Mexico announced in a public address that the state would reopen to tourists in the June 8-10 time frame. Quintana Roo, which is home to popular tourist destinations such as Cancun, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya, depends on tourism for much of its income.
With 80,000 jobs affected by the current pandemic, the return of tourists to these popular destinations is essential. To help promote the return of safe and responsible tourism, the Mexican Association of Yucatan Hotels’ announced a “COVID-free” program. Similar to what they are implementing with St. Lucia COVID-19’s certification process, the logo will affirm that hotels and resorts have met the standards of the program.
