Visiting the Soggy Dollar Bar Amidst a Pandemic

For fans of the Soggy Dollar Bar, a beach bar located on Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgin Islands, the featured video will be shocking. The world-famous beach bar is normally packed to the gills with tourist and locals lining up for it equally-as-popular Painkiller. With the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic shutting down travel to a historically low level and strict stay-at-home orders in effect, the Soggy Dollar bar stands eerily empty.

Many people have bemoaned the fact that this beach is normally too crowded but a solution that sits on the opposite end of the spectrum is something none of us envisioned. While the world pauses to fight the coronavirus, we can only hope our favorite beachfront watering holes can also weather the storm just 2 and a half years removed from the historically horrific hurricane season of 2017.

  1. With the Prime Minister not allowing tourists into the BVI’s until September, how will Soggy Dollar and so many other places down there survive when they just rebuilt.

    • That’s a very good question. Hopefully the government has a plan in place to help them through this!
