Beach Bar Pic of the Week – Kali’s Bar, St. Martin

Tagged: , , , , , ,

Kali’s Bar, a St. Martin beach bar located about three quarters of a mile southwest of Grand Case, is often overlooked by visitors to the island. Situated on the picturesque Friar’s Bay, tourists and cruisers often drive right by the beach without notice, opting for the more popular and well known Grand Case. Those familiar with Friar’s Bay are just fine with that as the small beach (well under 1000 feet in length) can remain their secret getaway.

On our most recent visit to the island, palm trees weren’t plentiful as nature was slowly recovering from the devastation left behind by hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017. Kali’s was the exception. I don’t know where the palm trees came from, whether they were imported from somewhere else or this corner of the island managed to somehow evade the unwelcomed winds. Whatever it was, it was refreshing to find them providing a canopy and pleasant backdrop to the goings-on at Kali’s.

The beach bar at Kali’s is a separate structure from the main one which houses the dining area and kitchen. Claim your spot on the beach but don’t forget to belly up to this beach bar. You’ll find yourself quickly making friends, telling stories over rum punches and wondering aloud how life became so perfect. Maybe you’ll even be lucky enough to spot Kali himself.
