When it comes to areas filled with beach bars, making yourself stand out above the masses becomes paramount to your existence. From theme nights to drink specials to music, beach bars have it pretty much covered when it comes to marketing ideas to get customers to their doorstep. Crazy Canucks, a beach bar on Ambergris Caye, an island off the coast of Belize, takes it to another level with their hermit crab races.
Somehow the folks that run Crazy Canucks have convinced hermit crabs that racing is a sport they would enjoy. After the beach bars’ patrons place their bets, it’s off to the races. The prizes are considerable, too, with one post on Instagram noting that the human participant won north of $400, a bag of coffee and a bottle of run. It’s not clear yet what the hermit crab’s take was but something tells me he/she was just fine with taking the checkered flag.
