Beach Bar Pic of the Week – Capt. Andy’s Oceanfront Tiki Bar and Grill, Nags Head, North Carolina

Tagged: , , , , , , ,

Capt. Andy’s Oceanfront Tiki Bar and Grill, located in the Outer Banks (OBX) of North Carolina at the head of the Nags Head fishing pier, sports the “tiki bar” nomenclature but could be just as comfortably described as a beach bar. With a covered bar area, an expanded outdoor deck for additional seating and sand everywhere (as is typically the case in the OBX), it’s a beach bar fan’s dream come true.

With its positioning at the head of the pier, a unique perspective is afforded visitors to Capt. Andy’s that not many other beach bars can offer. The view of the pier, and the ebb and flow of activity that naturally come with it, adds to the ambiance of the bar. It’s an ambiance that pervades the OBX with the pier itself being a sort of microcosm for these barrier islands.

This view, taken from inside the covered area through one of the many porthole-like windows looking out towards the pier, captures the pier at sunset. While it may appear rather empty, a quick stroll towards the end of the pier will review a mass of activity, from individuals trying to hook the catch of the day to tourists looking for the ideal selfie to others just looking for a solitary spot to take it all in.

If you get the chance, make sure and stop by Capt. Andy’s for a meal and then take a stroll on the pier. There’s a nominal fee (I believe it’s $1) but it’s guaranteed to be the best money you spend all week.
