For those of you looking for an island to check out from the world, you probably won’t find many prettier ones on a smaller speck of land than our featured picture this week. Located in Chuuk Lagoon near the island of Weno in the Federated States of Micronesia, the island appears to have more palm trees than people. A few ramshackle structures occupy a small footprint beneath the towering palms but beyond that, the unknown island seems to be the perfect place to get away from it all … if only you can get there in the first place.
From the photographer’s note on the image: “It has always been a dream to travel to Micronesia, but it’s a whole other story to get the opportunity to go and dive the biggest graveyard of WWII ships in the world. The place I am speaking of is Chuck Lagoon of the Federated States of Micronesia, located about 1,000km southeast from Guam on the Pacific Ocean. These are the many islets that are scattered within the vast lagoon.”
