“The best Caribbean beach bars” – start any conversation or article with that statement and you had better be prepared for a lengthy discussion. Most people will simply write off your opinion as ill-informed and obviously written by someone who has never visited a beach bar in their life. Others will simply tell you which beach bars are the best without offering an explanation as to why other beach bars aren’t. In any case, it’s always a fun debate and I applaud anyone taking a stand and ranking the best beach bars anywhere, especially the Caribbean where everyone is passionate about their favorite beachfront watering hole.
If you’ve always been dissatisfied with the results of the latest “best beach bar” list, you now have an outlet for those feelings. 10Best, a USA Today publication, is giving you an opportunity to vote for the best Caribbean beach bar.
Through high noon (Eastern) on February 11th, you can cast your vote from among 20 beach bar choices. Curated by Caribbean experts Melanie Reffes and Chelle Koster Walton, the list is a good representation of the region’s best beach bars. Including well known favorites such as Da Conch Shack in Turks and Caicos, Nipper’s, and Chat ‘N’ Chill in the Bahamas, Elvis’ and the Dune in Anguilla, Sunset Beach Bar in St. Maarten and of course, the Soggy Dollar Bar on Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgin Islands, the list gives readers and potential voters a broad spectrum of beach bars to choose from.
While I’m always surprised when any best Caribbean beach bar list contains nary an entry from St. Kitts, it’s a good starting point. Ms. Reffes and Ms. Walton deserves props for their choices while facing down the inevitable storm of scorn from my readers for leaving out their favorite beach bar. It’s a thankless job but seriously, how do I get on this committee? That panel really needs to have three members. You know, just in case there’s a tie.
Remember, if you don’t vote, you can’t complain. 🙂
