If you’ve ever visited Key West, one of the first things you’ll notice is the plethora of bicycles. Stacked up outside beach bars and street-side bars, next to beaches, outside shops and everywhere in between, the bicycles are as ubiquitous in Key West as sunburned tourists. You’ll also find tricycles and I don’t mean the kind you pedaled as a kid. These tricycles are meant for adults. Basically a bicycle with two wheels in the back with a handy dandy basket in between them to haul whatever needs to be hauled.
That’s what the videographer of the above video was riding – a tricycle. As you can see in the video, the streets aren’t that wide to begin with. Add cars, trucks, delivery vehicles and inebriated pedestrians and it’s quite the obstacle course to maneuver your way through. The person filming the video does it adeptly, safely making it from Front St. to the always popular Lagerheads beach bar.
It’s actually a pretty cool tour of Key West, offering a strolling tour of the streets not easily accomplished in a vehicle. The soundtrack is appropriate as well, adding to the overall laid back vibe of the video and life in general in the Florida Keys. It will be the best three minutes of your day, a little over 180 seconds of Key West whispering “come see me now.” Spending the day cruising the streets of Key West on a tricycle with your final destination a beach bar? I think that sounds pretty swell. Don’t you?

Tricycle no, bicycle yes, every time I go which is almost annually since 2004. It’s the best way to get around fer sher, no parking issues, no DUI issues (some of them even have drink holders!) and the place is so flat that it is basically effortless.

Linda, you had me at “no DUI issues” and “drink holders.” Looks like it’s time to head back to Key West! Thanks!
