Anyone who has followed this blog for some time will realize how much I love cocktails. It is a beach bar blog so it kind of makes sense. Naturally, when I saw that Cancun’s Beach Palace had opened up a “Mixology” bar, I was intrigued. This was a resort we had just stayed at in November 2017 and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. I could go on and on and on about everything we appreciated about the resort but we’ll save that for another article.
My chief complaint about the Beach Palace, however, was its lack of any craft cocktails, or at least an easy place to find them. Sure, the restaurants all offered decent drinks and the guys at the beachfront bar could always whip up a tasty concoction to cool you down but I wanted something different, something original. I remember going to the sports bar at the resort and ordering a daiquiri and specifying that I didn’t want the frozen version – I wanted a real daiquiri. The bartender couldn’t do it. No matter how I tried to explain it to him, I wasn’t going to get the most perfect cocktail in the history of mankind, no matter how much I begged and pleaded.

One of the many tasty concoction made to cool you down at the beachfront bar at Beach Palace in Cancun.
That’s going to change with the Mixology bar at Beach Palace, or so the above promotional video would lead you to believe. We came close to going back to Cancun this year if just for the convenience sake of it and when we do return some day soon (an inevitability as we’ve already been five times), there won’t be any question about it. The small fault that I had with the Beach Palace has been fixed and I couldn’t be any happier about it. Yes, I understand that other resorts have great craft cocktail programs that have been in place for years. However, when you fall in love with a resort as much as we did (especially its staff and the way they interacted with our children), that’s going to be a tie breaker when everything else is equal.
Time to start salivating over those cocktails. Beach Palace, get your Mixology bar ready for me. I’ll be coming soon. And in case you’re looking for any bartenders, I might know someone who has his servers license. Just sayin’ ….
