Johnno’s Beach Stop and Dad’s Bar and Grill, two beach bars located in Sandy Ground, Anguilla, were destroyed by fire overnight. Initial videos and images from the scene show a complete loss of both iconic beach bars. The cause of the blaze is not known at this time.
Dad’s Bar and Grill had this to say on their Facebook page:
“There are no words ….
Dad’s is burning to the ground as I send this. Fire spreading … Johnno’s gone too
We don’t know why
God help us, we’ve lost everything.”
From the Facebook page for Johnno’s:
“We woke up to horrible news this morning. Johnno’s and Dad’s both burned to the ground early this morning. No one was hurt but both places will need assistance in rebuilding. We will post information on how to help.

The complete loss of a business is a significant one, no matter the timing, but this one hurts a little worse. After recovering from Hurricane Irma last fall, this year’s upcoming August Monday celebrations were to be an opportunity for businesses on the island to experience an infusion of cash from the many locals and tourists celebrating the holiday. Instead, Johnno’s and Dad’s will both be forced into simply figuring out how to not just rebuild but to survive as a business.
As efforts to aid both businesses are made known, I will update this article with the pertinent information.
