I’ve written about Lion Rock Beach Bar, located on Cockleshell Beach in St. Kitts, more than a few times on this blog and on social media. At one point or another, it’s been my favorite beach bar. When I found out Christophe Harbour was going to be built in the same area as Lion Rock, my first thought was I hope they don’t tread on one of my favorite corners in the world. Luckily, the development hasn’t touched this beach and it appears to be safe for the time being.
As you can see in the above video, the beach, referred to in this video as “Banana Beach,” (most likely due to its proximity to the next-door Banana Bay), is alive and kicking. With a stretch of beach bars beginning to rival even “The Strip,” Cockleshell seems firmly entrenched enough to keep any big money developers at bay. The video features mostly drone footage, managing to stray inside the popular beach bar at about the 2 minute mark. While Lion is nowhere to be found, it’s a pleasant reminder of one of my favorite places and a reason why this blog exists in the first place.

Thank you, Tom, for this video. Well done! I share your sentiments about this place. I’ve been to St. Kitts 5 times and this is by far my favorite place to hang. I recently learned that Lion passed sometime in the fall of 2019.
