St. Martin’s Pinel Island Reopens

Pinel Island, a small island off the northwest coast of St. Martin, has reopened for business (along with its beach bars), according to Caribbean Journal. Home to the Karibuni and Yellow Beach beach bars, the article states that the island has reopened and that “both the Karibuni and Yellow Beach beach bars have relaunched operations.”

Pinel, a must visit for anyone to the island, whether the French or Dutch side, was devastated by Hurricane Irma in 2017. The beach bars, Karibuni and Yellow Beach, both sustained significant damage. Their recovery, renovation and reopening is a positive sign for the island as well as a shot in the arm for the tourism-dependent economy.

If you are heading to the island soon, a day trip to Pinel Island is highly recommended. Beyond the magnificent beach and beach bars, there are hiking paths that will take you to the undeveloped portions of the island. There you’ll find a more barren scraggily-like setting with incomparable views of St. Martin and the Caribbean.
