WINN FM out of St. Kitts this week posted an article that provided an update on the status of the beach bars located on the beach at South Friars Bay, a longtime popular beach located on the island’s southeast peninsula. The owners of the beach bars, which had previously been told to move on by the end of this month, have apparently reached a compromise with the government and other landowners. According to the article, a deal has been struck with the owners of the beach bars that includes relocating a few of them to Frigate Bay, home of the Strip, a stretch of beach already home to many beach bars.
While not all of the beach bars on South Friars Bay will be relocating to the Strip, it seems at least two will be – Shipwreck and Discovery. The article quotes Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce Lindsay Grant as saying after a meeting with the owners of those two beach bars that “there is some semblance of acceptance by the bar owners, although reluctantly to go to Frigate Bay.”

Where is Frigate Bay in relation to where Shipwreck Bar is now located? We will be visiting St. Kitts next month and would like to have lunch at Shipwreck Bar. Can we get there by walking from the Carambola Beach Club?
THANKS!

Susan, Frigate Bay is on the other side of Timothy Hill from where Shipwreck currently is. You cannot walk it. If you tell your transportation provider to take you to the Shiggidy Shack, you’ll be at Frigate Bay. Have fun!
