Judging by this Christmas Eve video from YouTuber “captainbirch,” Dingy’s Beach Bar, located on Honeymoon Beach on Water Island just off St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands, is doing just fine after surviving Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Filmed on Christmas Eve, the video, almost seven minutes in length, offers a walk-around tour of the beach bar as the videographer slowly makes his way through the crowd. A singer-songwriter croons away in the background while strumming her acoustic guitar and the ubiquitous dinghies which gave the beach bar its name even make an appearance.
The video is simple with no fancy cuts, pans or fades but offers a glimpse into the daily life of locals and visitors as the area continues to recover from the 2017 hurricane season. Here’s to hoping this past holiday season offered a respite from the recovery and a little time to spend with family and friends to enjoy what draws us all to the Caribbean.
