According to this article from Traveler’s Digest, the Dominican Republic (DR) welcomed the most tourists to its shores for island nations in the Caribbean. The article, from 2014, noted that the country that shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti, had 4.3 million visitors for the time period measure, easily outdistancing second place Puerto Rico and its 3 million visitors.
It’s no wonder, then, that the most liked image in our daily “beach pic of the day” posts was taken in the DR at one of its most popular resort areas, Punta Cana. Throw in the fact that it looks like it was taken from a beach-bar-like structure and the other images, no matter how pretty or glorious, didn’t stand a chance against the DR.
