After almost 72 hours on St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands, my first impression is a positive one. Sure, there are a lot of Americans here but I’ve never considered that a bad thing. Roles typically played by locals in the island’s story are now filled by a lot of expats and trying to wade through Long Island accents instead of the island’s dialect still takes a bit of concentration.
So far, I’d call it a nice blend of American convenience & familiarity and the laid back island vibe many of us head to the Caribbean to enjoy. It’s not perfect but I have yet to encounter a Caribbean nation that is.
And the beach bar scene – yeah, it’s on point.
