When I finalized plans for our trip to Virginia Beach, the Back Deck Bar and Cafe was one place I knew I had to visit. As it’s designed to do, their Instagram page had been teasing me from afar so when we arrived at our resort and found out it was going to be a while before our room was ready, I knew exactly where I was going to pass the time.
If I can’t be on a beach, I want to get as close to the water as I can and the Back Deck didn’t disappoint in that aspect. It’s actually over the water so you can’t get any closer to the liquid stuff without being in it. While the food was OK, the service was quick, polite and with a smile, the drinks were excellent and about 50% less than I would have expected to pay, maybe partly owing to the fact that it isn’t anywhere near the boardwalk and appeared to be more of a locals’ spot.
And that view! With all the boats cruising by, it made for a perfect first night out in Virginia Beach and I highly recommend it to anyone coming to the area.
Getting There
Search for “Shellfish Company Virginia Beach” and your GPS will get you there. It’s behind the gift shop (t-shirts st only $16 is a deal) and you can either walk through the shop to get to the bar or take the side walkway to the left of the front entrance.
