Abi Beach Bar, located on Frenchman’s Bay on St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands, is a bit of an anomaly on this Caribbean island. While there are certainly great beach bars on St. Thomas, the more popular ones such as the Beach Bar at Emerald Beach Resort and Iggie’s at Bolongo Bay Resort, are attached to resorts. Abi Beach Bar has struck out on its own and fellow beach bar bum Dennis Kozuch recently paid it a visit. Describing it as a real find, Dennis went on to say that the beach is nice and the beach bar had “good food, live music and great deals on Presidente.”
When Abi beach bar opened last year, the only way to access it was by boat or a hike through the woods. Dennis noted that the beach bar now has a small road leading directly to it, negating the need to sweat out all of that Presidente on your hike back out.

News of St. John – “It has a large bar area, cold drinks, great food, clean bathrooms, tons of lounge chairs, a volleyball court and a beautiful beach. Oh and there are even servers on the beach, so you could be as lazy as you want. It doesn’t really get any better than that folks.”

Dana, there is now a small road leading to it so any taxi service on the island should be able to just drive you there. Hope that helps!

Which bar, froggies or abi beach,is closer to the port?do they both compare to the soggy dollar on jost?

Dana, Haha! No problem. They’re about 3/4 miles from each other as the crow flies with ABI being closer to the cruise port. However, Iggie’s would be easier to get to. Soggy Dollar is one of the best beach bars in the world so it wouldn’t be fair to compare it to these two. Iggie’s is more well-known than ABI and it’s at a resort to there will be more amenities but also more people. ABI is on its own beach and harder to get to so there will be less people. It kind of depends on what you prefer. Either way, you’ll have fun at both. Safe travels!

The road existed since at least 1981, when I moved to the mountain where Mayer Way (postal address 15-33 Frenchmans Bay) is, at 11 years old. It was just gated by a private owner at the top of the hill, whomes house you pass on the way down.

Thanks for the info, John! Wish our taxi driver had known that since he had no idea how to get there. Cheers!
