El Patio, located on Isla Mujeres, a tiny island just off the coast of Cancun, bares a striking resemblance to Blue Heaven, one of my favorite restaurants in Key West. Replete with palm trees offering shade to the denizens of the open air courtyard and handy dandy limbs (tree limbs, not denizen limbs) to dangle lights from, an outdoor bar and music stage and a food menu full of local flavor only matched by the adornments that leap out at you from every angle, El Patio might be mistaken for Blue Heaven if it weren’t for the absence of chickens and cats roaming the grounds.
Being reminded of Blue Heaven is a good thing in my world and the reviewers at Trip Advisor agree, constantly referring to its frozen mojitos, cool atmosphere and great live music. Isla Mujeres Dining calls it “one of the island’s favorite restaurants” and provides a link to their menu. El Patio doesn’t have a website so you’ll have to visit their Facebook page (linked to above) for the latest updates.
A great big special “Thank you! to Kim McDowell for the images and for giving me yet another reason to get back to Isla Mujeres soon.
