Toby Keith, Rum and the Reason Pirates Never Ruled the World

I’m always on the lookout for great tunes to add to my beach bar playlist. After all, there are only so many Chesney, Buffett and Marley songs you can play. So when I came across “Rum is the Reason” by Toby Keith, from his newest album, “35 mph Town,” and heard the sweet sounds of steelpan coming at me, I knew I had another spot on my playlist filled.

The tune has that lilting rhythmic island swing to it that gently lulls you into a sense of well-being no matter where you are, the kind that makes you want to grab a rum drink, saunter slowly down to the beach and catch the sunset with your friends. As Toby Keith sings in his song: “My whole body goes numb from a bottle of dark rum and the sun sinking down on me.”

Bottle of rum on the beach.

What do you think of the new tune from Toby Keith? Love it or hate it? Good enough to make room on your beach bar playlist?
