10best.com, part of USA Today, recently released a list of the 10 best beach bars in Fort Myers, Florida. The author of the article, Gina Birch, included beach bars in Ft. Myers Beach (yes, it’s a separate municipality), Capitva Island and Bonita Springs. Mentioned on the list include the whole Lani Kai Island Resort in Ft. Myers Beach, a famous (or infamous, depending on your point of view) spot back in my spring break days. It’s still that way apparently, as the author notes that the spring break weeks are “standing room only on the beach and the bars are three deep.”
Cabana’s Beach Bar and Grill makes the list at number seven, where patrons can “Enjoy happy hour and lots of daily drink specials here, along with fresh wraps, seafood and other snacks to fuel your day in the sun.” Doc’s Beach House, “a landmark beach spot” in Bonita Springs checks in on the list also, claiming a spot at number two. It’s “not only a fantastic spot for folks who plan to spend their day having fun in the sun, but also visitors who want food with a view.”
Did you favorite Fort Myers area beach bar make the list? Any beach bars you’re shaking your head at? Let me know in the comments!

I just don’t know why The Beach Pub never makes any lists other than it doesn’t offer food (I view good beach food and good beach bars as separate venues). As far as the “Smelly Kai” well…..

Maybe we’ll have to see what we can do to get The Beach Pub on one of those lists!

The missed The Outrigger! This south end beach bar is always a favorite for sunset!
