Top 10 Tampa Bay Beach Bars

Tagged: , , , ,

Last week the Tampa Bay Times released their list of the top 10 beach bars in Tampa Bay for the summer and since it’s actually the first full day of summer (summer officially began yesterday around 12:30 Eastern time), I thought today would be as good a day as any to go over the list. Plus, the list is dominated by beach bars in the St. Pete Beach area and seeing as how this summer is going to end with a plethora of St. Pete Beach beach bars, it might as well begin the same way.

There are a few surprises on the list. Jimmy B’s Beach Bar, a perpetual contender for the top beach bar in Floridabeachbar.com’s annual contest, isn’t included on the list but the Flying Bridge at the Tradewinds Resort is and to be completely honest with you, I’ve never even heard of it. Our favorite “thought you were on the way out but now you’re here to stay” beach bar made the list as Caddy’s on the Beach continues to keep its doors open and make appearances on “best of” lists, a sure sign that the Treasure Island mainstay should, well, … stay. Clearwater Beach gets in on the fun along with Indiana Shores but in the end, this is still a list dominated by St. Pete Beach, further evidence that one of the locales I’ve labeled “favorite place I have yet to visit” is worthy of its title.

One nifty aspect of this list – besides the detailed descriptions, which are more than most lists include, are insider tips, which include mentions about what to eat, what to drink, how to snag a free beach ride, bathrooms without doors and cannonball contests. Those are the types of tips a beach bar bums needs. See ya in September, St. Pete Beach!

  1. Thankyou for pointing me in the direction of these Gulf Coast fun spots! So many beach bars to visit, my head is spinning and my pencil broke scribbling them onto the to-do list! We will definitely plan ahead for the shower curtain one.

  2. You’re more than welcome, Marybeth! And yeah, that shower curtain one would probably be best dealt with by planning ahead. 🙂
