Beach Bar Playlist: Andy Grammer, “Back Home”

Andy Grammer, "Magazines or Novels"If the executives at S-Curve Records had any semblance of intelligence, they would rerelease Andy Grammer’s “Back Home” as the follow up single to his smash hit, “Honey, I’m Good.” I say “rerelease” because “Back Home” was actually the first single released from the “Magazine or Novels” album. It didn’t fare well on the charts – in fact, I’m pretty sure it didn’t get anywhere near the top 40 on any relevant sites. Now that “Honey, I’m Good” is as ubiquitous as rum in a beach bar, it would make sense to rerelease “Back Home” as the next single. With the popularity of Andy Grammer’s music at its zenith, “Back Home,” a foot stomping hand clapping ode to drinking, cheap sunglasses, Redbull, minivans, memorable nights and going home with a simple singalong chorus thrown in for good measure, is tailor made to dominate this summer’s radio airwaves and crashing waves alike.

They tried releasing “Back Home” at the beginning of summer last year so it proves that we’re at least thinking along the same track. With “Honey, I’m Good” as a lead in this time, “Back Home” is bound to succeed and hey, the video’s already done so it kind of makes a lot of sense, you know? Plus, they featured it as part of a two song medley for the American Idol finale sooooo ….

Lyrics
“I’m gonna need you to raise your glass
I don’t care what you put in it
Here’s to nights that you can’t take back
We live hard but we love to laugh

We all thought that we’d get rich fast
Hop the plane out for greener grass
Found out the green is cash
Don’t compare to the friends that last

See, we won’t forget where we came from
The city won’t change us
We beat to the same drum
No, we won’t forget where we came from
The city can’t change us
We beat to the same drum, the same drum

(Hey) La-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah
La-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-doe
(Hey) And no matter where we go
We always find our way back home

(Hey) La-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah
La-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-doe
(Hey) And no matter where we go
We always find our way back home

So here’s to the cheap sunglasses
Red Bull and minivans and
People who had your back when
The world didn’t understand

See, we won’t forget where we came from
The city won’t change us
We beat to the same drum
No, we won’t forget where we came from
The city can’t change us
We beat to the same drum, the same drum

(Hey) La-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah
La-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-doe
(Hey) And no matter where we go
We always find our way back home

(Hey) La-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah
La-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-doe
(Hey) And no matter where we go
We always find our way back home

When ties loosen
We’re losing touch
And fading away
We’ll still be raising our cups
To the same damn things

Oh no, the city won’t change us
Oh no, the city won’t change us
Oh no, the city won’t change us
Oh no, the city won’t change us
Won’t change us

(Hey) La-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah
La-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-doe
And no matter where we go
We always find our way back home

La-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah
La-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-doe
And no matter where we go
We always find our way back home

(Hey) La-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah
La-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-doe
And no matter where we go
We always find our way back home

(Hey) We always find our way back home
Yeah, we always find our way back home”
