Change Coming to Ambergris Caye’s Palapa Bar and Grill in Belize

Tagged: , , , , ,

One of the first beach bar owners I featured on the blog as part of my “Beach Bar Bums Focus” column was Scott and Jodie Harnish of the Palapa Bar and Grill in San Pedro Town on the island of Ambergris Caye in Belize. Through our interactions online and via email, it was easy to recognize how friendly and outgoing they were and realize that they were a big reason for their bar being as popular as it is. As I’ve said before, a destination can be special but it’s the people that call it home that really separate it from the pack.

Palapa friends getting Buckets of Beer and enjoying the Caribbean

In case you haven’t heard, Scott and Jodie are presumably moving on to bigger and better things and will be leaving Palapa at the end of the year. Even though I never met them in person, the opportunity to spend some time with them at their bar was one of the reasons Ambergis Caye was at the top of our wish list. I still hold out hope that we’ll be able to share drinks and stories at a beach bar somewhere in the future and I look forward to following them on whatever adventure life brings them in the coming years.

JODIE SCOTT AND SUNNY

I’ll try and contact Scott and Jodie in the meantime to see if we can get the lowdown on what the future holds for them (and of course their dog Sunny!) and share it on the blog. Until then, be sure to stop by and say goodbye before they leave and enjoy the Palapa while you can because it won’t be the same without them.

For more details on the current goings on at Palapa Bar and Grill, you can read articles here and here. You can find my original story on Scott and Jodie here where they had this to say: ““I think the most fun has been all the wonderful people we have met, many now lifelong friends.” Here’s to many more wonderful people and lifelong friends in your future, Scott, Jodie and Sunny!
