St. Pete Beach – here I come! Anyone that has followed this blog for a while knows that I have certain areas that are high on my wish list of places to visit. Often referred to as “favorite places I have yet to visit,” they are islands, towns, beaches, etc. that I’ve fallen in love with from afar through various channels. One of those places is St. Pete Beach.
My love affair with St. Pete Beach began as soon as I realized how many beach bars they had. In the late summer of 2013, I did a couple pieces on the Postcard Inn in Islamorada. During my communications with them, I discovered they had a sister property in St. Pete Beach. The town was already familiar to me due to the number of beach bars in the area that would show up on floridabeachbar.com’s annual list of best Florida beach bars. I just figured they had a few great beach bars and that was the extent of it. While I got close to St. Pete Beach in the spring of 2013 during our visit to Siesta Key, my view of it was compromised by my experience in Siesta Key, where the condos dominate the landscape and the closest thing you’ll come to a beach bar is the landlocked Village or the intracoastal. Getting close to St. Pete Beach seemed like it would have to suffice for the time being with maybe a long weekend squeezed in somewhere on the horizon.
That’s all about to change, however, as I will soon be able to mark St. Pete Beach off my list of “favorite places I have yet to visit” with our upcoming visit at the end of this summer. We will be arriving in St. Pete Beach on August 29th and won’t be leaving until the day after Labor Day. That’s 11 days and 10 nights of beach bar “research,” starting at the Postcard Inn and working my way down to the Undertow Beach Bar and back as many times as humanly possible. Our friends over at Clear Vision Media have been teasing me with aerial images and videos of the area and I can’t wait to finally be able to experience it in person!
I’ll share more details as soon as I have them but I wanted to get this out there so we can start planning a beach bar crawl or some get togethers. If you’re in the area and want to meet up, send me an email at info at beach bar bums dot com and I’ll add you to the email list for the trip. Also, if you can recommend any other activities besides beach bar crawling, let me know in the comments. We’ll make sure celebrate the end of another summer on a high note … in St. Pete Beach!
