Taking a Peek at Friar’s Bay Beach, St. Martin

The beach at Friar’s Bay doesn’t often get mentioned when discussing the beaches of St. Martin. This blog has yet to mention it but when you’re going up against beaches such as Orient Bay, Great Bay, Maho and Simpson Bay, sometimes you just need to assert yourself and scream “Hey, don’t forget about us over here!” The beach at Friar’s Bay is described by Sint-maarten.net as a “pretty, small, family oriented beach. The bay is well protected from the swells, and attracts also a few boats. For its calm waters, Friar´s Bay is an ideal beach for families” and a beach with “a fair amount of sand, beautiful seashells to collect, and a good view of the neighboring British island Anguilla. Facing the west coast, Friar´s Bay has also lovely sunset views. It is a very relaxed and laid-back beach to enjoy!”

While it’s tiny, it still manages to squeeze in two beach bars and they are good ones. Kali’s Beach Bar is known for its rastafarian menu, specializing in good curries and local fish and it’s famous (or infamous) full moon parties. It’s open for breakfast lunch and dinner but it’s often closed so check first before you head over there. If it is closed and you’re really hungry and/or thirsty, you can head over to Friar’s Bay Beach Cafe, which offers French and international cuisine. Sint-maarten.net describes it as a “Casual beach bar and restaurant right in the middle of Friar´s Bay beach (see cabana on picture) with a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Specials change almost daily, according to the fresh ingredients the chef gets. Live music every Sunday from 6 to 9pm. Private parties for 10 people and up. Open daily from 9am to sunset.”
