Km 5 (kilometro 5) Surf Bar, located in Higuera Blanca between Punta de Mita and Sayulita in Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit region, is a surfer’s end of the day dream come true. Surrounded by beaches popular with surfers from all over, PV Angels describes the only surf bar in the area as having “sand on the floor (as all real surf bars should) along with great looking bartenders, an open kitchen so you can see how they cook up some awesome pizza and other delights (and see how clean it is) and good stiff drinks and beer along with a view of the ocean and the amazing sunsets.” Didn’t bring your surfboard? No worries – you can rent them from Km 5. The best part yet about the surf bar? Not only is it owned by local surfers, it’s also part of a non-profit organization named Azulita that teaches “the rural towns all over the Mexican coast about what to do with the organic garbage, how to create composts and soil from the trash.” You can find out more about the good they’re doing for the area here.
