The Riviera Maya, an area not normally known for its beach bars, gets some love from USA Today as they highlight five of the coolest beach bars in this coastal region of mainland Mexico south of Cancun. While the Riviera Maya has been dominated for the last couple decades by all-inclusive resorts (with even more in the works) who have their own beach bars, you won’t find any of those on this list. The author, Mark Rogers, made it a point to include beach bars that stand alone or are at resorts that are not all-inclusive. Included in the list are beach bars in Akumal, Puerto Morelos, Maroma Beach and Playa del Carmen, where the Blue Parrot Beach Club assumes its big boy perch as the “Big Daddy of Riviera Maya beach bars.”

Is the Blue Parrot the Big Daddy or is there another beach bar in the article that should wear this title? If you made the list, which beach bars would you have included and why? Let me know in the comments because seriously, what else are you going to today? Let’s debate beach bars!
