Sugar Ridge, a luxury boutique hotel on the island of Antigua in the Caribbean, today released on its blog a list of the five best beach bars in Antigua. I was happy to see OJ’s Beach Bar (featured here by Sugar Ridge) make the list. It’s one of my favorite beach bars and I never go to Antigua without stopping by OJ’s.
One aspect of the article that I was pleasantly surprised to see included was the emphasis on owners. Sugar Ridge states “For most of those on our list, the only thing each place has in common is an owner – or owners – determined to provide a unique experience that leaves the visitor raving about Antigua, and the local coming back for more, day in and day out.” I couldn’t agree more. I’ve always stressed the importance of an owner on the appeal of a beach bar – it’s what separates Lion Rock from Shipwreck in St. Kitts at the top of my favorite beach bars. The last time I was in St. Kitts, I was able to enjoy a Carib and short conversation with Lion himself. Once you meet the man in person, you can understand why so many people love his beach bar and keep coming back.
To view the rest of the beach bars on the list, please visit Sugar Ridge’s blog and let me know what you think. Did they leave any out? If so, which beach bar would you have replaced?

Hey, Jessica! Thanks for reaching out to me. Unfortunately, I don’t remember all of the beach bars but I’ve been to Antigua twice for extended vacations and would love to recommend some beach bars for you. Can you send me an email at info@beachbarbums.com? I’ll fill you in on the best beach bars to visit and some other recommended activities. I don’t know if you’ve been there before but you’ll love it!
