World’s Best Bars describes the Sanderson Hotel’s Purple Bar as “an opulent, jewel-like space. Hidden just off the main reception area, it’s an intentionally intimate bar, seating around twenty in all, but this just adds to the air of exclusivity. The lighting is kept atmospherically low for the same reason. As the name suggests, Purple is the dominate colour here. The walls, the furniture, everything is purple-toned. The cocktail list concentrates on martinis and, while these are pricey (no real surprise), they’re very well made. They also stock an array of champagnes and gained column inches when they introduced one of the most expensive cocktails in London, The Proposal, which came complete with a diamond ring.” The hotel says the Purple Bar “is a chic and intimate lounge that has become one of London’s hottest gathering places. Draped in violet silk opera curtains, and furnished with lavender Queen Anne chairs, purple etched Venetian mirrors, and a bar that looks like an enormous meteorite just fallen from the sky, the wildly theatrical Purple Bar feels straight from the pages of “Alice in Wonderland” – a quality that makes it the perfect setting for drinks, conversation and people-watching. Purple Bar offers quality cocktails and the Fine & Rare collection.”
