Finding My Inner Confectioner at Key Largo Chocolates

Tagged: , , , , ,

If you find yourself traveling through Key Largo in the Upper Keys of Florida, keep an eye out for a bright pink and green building on the “bayside” of highway 1 in the vicinity of mile markers 101 and 102. Even though you might be tempted to keep driving to your destination, make the turn into the parking lot and take 15 minutes to explore a chocolate paradise Willy Wonka would be proud of. Bob and Kristie Thomas, the owners of Key Largo Chocolates, have created a unique shop in an area full of them that specializes in truffles, Bob’s Chippers (chocolate dipped potato chips that are to die for) and other unique chocolate and fudge items (plus ice cream and other desserts!) not to be found anywhere else in the area.

I had the pleasure of meeting Bob and Kristie when I was in the Upper Keys last fall and was able to get a personal tour of their kitchen. Everything is made on site in a strictly controlled environment. The temperature is monitored, humidity levels checked and of course, the ingredients are tasted to ensure they meet the high standards set by Bob and Kristie. Offering an assortment of delectable delights including the aforementioned Bob’s Chippers (did I mention how delicious these are?), Key Lime Pie on a Stick, Key Lime Fudge and everything in between, Key Largo Chocolates should be on everyone’s Florida Keys to do list.

Is your mouth salivating but you can’t make it to the Keys? No problem – Key Largo Chocolates has an online store and can ship anywhere in the US.

To quote their website: “… making and selling chocolate is not just a business. It’s a passion. It’s a cause. It’s a way of life. It’s a way of connecting with others by providing them with something to boost the pleasure level of daily life.”
