Beach Bar Playlist – Tuesday Tunes: Outasight, “I’ll Drink to That”

It’s hard to place Outasight into one genre of music. Depending on the song you listen to, his music could be labeled as soul, funk, pop, hip hop, dance or a few others. Maybe it’s this variety that attracted me to his music in the first place or just the fact that whenever one of his songs came on, everyone in the room couldn’t help but dance to it. The song that first turned me on to Outasight’s music was the Discotech remix of “Figure 8.” I couldn’t stop playing it. I knew who Discotech was from previous remixes but their take on “Figure 8” took it to another level. I’ve been listening to Outasight ever since and while the advertising folks on Madison Avenue have recognized how catchy his music is (his songs have been featured in commercials for Pepsi, Honda, Pizza Hut and Microsoft among others), top 40 radio programmers still have yet to catch on.

I’ve always thought that if I had a beach bar, music would be a major part of it. Not just bands or DJs playing but cranking up a favorite tune when it starts playing over the speakers and getting everyone to sing along. And trust me, you want everyone to sing along because the last thing you want your ears exposed to is me trying to hold a tune. Maybe close each night with “Auld Lang Syne” and send everyone on their merry way. Singing makes everyone happier whether you can hold a tune or not and isn’t that really the point of a beach bar? Aren’t we there to make sure everyone’s having a good time and leaving all their troubles and toils behind if just for a few hours?

Outasight’s song,”I’ll Drink to That,” is one of those songs that would be perfect for a sing-along at a bar. It’s catchy and has a nice beat, the chorus is easily memorized and it screams to be sung while holding your drink high in the air. So hit play on the video, grab a drink, sing along with old friends, make some new friends and let tomorrow worry about itself. I’ll drink to that!

“Walking through the rain trying to clear my head
The city never sleeps but I’ll find me a bed
I’ll close my eyes and try to escape
All the lonely nights and the minimum wage
And New York City sounds good right now

The times are hard so let’s drink to what we’ve got
Take a shot and have some faith
Singing these long days will be worth it when we’re older
Weight is off our shoulders
I’ll drink to that
I’ll drink to that
I’ll drink to that

Now I’m walking through the town that made me a man
Everyone here tries the best that they can
When the weekend comes we pour our hearts in a glass
Raise ’em up and cheers, make the good times last
And New York City sounds good right now

Times are hard so let’s drink to what we’ve got
Take a shot and have some faith
Singing these long days will be worth it when we’re older
Weight is off our shoulders
I’ll drink to that
I’ll drink to that
I’ll drink to that

Pour another round, this one’s on me
A toast to our love and our family
And when the day grows old may we look back and say
That we had our fun
We lived while we were young

Times are hard so let’s drink to what we’ve got
Take a shot and have some faith
Singing these long days will be worth it when we’re older
Weight is off our shoulders
I’ll drink to that

Take a shot have some faith
I’ll drink to that
I’ll drink to that
I’ll drink to that

New York City sounds good right now”
