Almost every weekend during the summer, we have typically head to the same place on the lake – the sandbar. Our friends and family congregate there so it’s naturally become a second home for us on the weekends. It’s where we’ve made new friends and memories, played the music too loud and danced like we didn’t have a care. It’s where we’ve discussed the problems of the world and how to solve them, shared drinks and stories with friends and strangers and where we’ve enjoyed many sunsets as another stunning summer day came to a close. It’s where I feel most relaxed and myself – where I can just sit back, enjoy the moment and soak in the atmosphere.
As I was driving into work this morning, I realized how many similarities there were between life on the sandbar and life at a beach bar. My days spent on the sandbar were a harbinger of what I had yet to discover. I had fallen in love with the beach bar life long before I ever set foot in one. My beach bar state of mind began on the sandbar.
I don’t live in an area known for its beach bars so I’m always counting the days until I can get back to one. Until then, the sandbar will have to take its rightful spot as my beach bar proxy and you know what? That’s not such a bad thing.
Do you have a beach bar proxy? Is it sitting on a boat enjoying the sunset while sipping a glass of wine? Is it on the deck of your house looking over your backyard as you enjoy a cold beer? Let me know where your “beach bar” is and what puts you in that beach bar state of mind.
