I’m more excited about this announcement than I have been over any of the other news attached to the Beach Bar Bums online store. For those of you who didn’t know, I love music as much as I love being on the beach. It’s always been a passion of mine and when an opportunity to collaborate on a t-shirt with one of my favorite bands came up, I jumped at the chance to work with them. The Vandelles, a noir-rock band out of NYC that has a grungy 60s surf rock sound to a lot of their songs, is fronted by my good friend, Jason Schwartz. When I was going through their library, I came across “Bomb the Surf,” one of my favorite songs from them and thought that it would be a natural tie in to the Beach Bar Bums message I was trying to get out. Namely, do whatever you need to do to get to the beach, let loose and enjoy yourself whether it be downing rum punches at a beach bar, tanning your backside on the beach, strumming a guitar by the bonfire or heading out on dawn patrol. I approached Jason about using the song title on the t-shirt and he was all in. I went to my lead designer and said “Here’s the name of the song – come up with something neat” and he delivered. When I presented the final design to Jason, he loved it and gave it his wholehearted approval.
I’m happy to say that the final finished product is now available at the Beach Bar Bums online store in a heathered charcoal/white version. I went through a bunch of sample t-shirts trying to find just the right one and when I received this shirt and tried it on, I knew I had found it. It’s composed of 60% ringspun cotton and 40% polyester and has a modern fit to it. What does that mean? It has that “it’s been slept in for seven years” feel to it and it isn’t too loose or too tight. It just fits right and lays right and feels right. You know that t-shirt you always reach for on the weekends when you’re looking for something fitted but comfy to wear out around the town or to the beach? This will usurp that t-shirt.
The t-shirt is available in limited sizes and quantities so grab yours while you can. There will be a black/red version of this shirt but that will only be through the band.
For more on the Vandelles and their summer tour schedule, check out their Bandcamp page or find them on Facebook.
Thank you and cheers to the weekend!
