Plane Strikes Bird on Approach to St. Maarten’s SXM Airport

This isn’t something you see every day – a jet striking a bird as it crosses Maho Beach and approaches its landing at Princess Julaana Airport (SXM) on the Caribbean island of St. Martin/St. Maarten.

While bird strikes can be hazardous for planes (the FAA even keeps a database of the bird strikes), resulting “in over $600 million in damage to US civil and military aviation each year,” this one landed safely.
